Eurobois 2011: the recession-beating show for the timber industry

The wood sector is ideally placed to benefit from the first signs of the upturn, with the environment and energy efficiency becoming key concerns.

The Forest Plan perspectives

The wood sector is to be developed as a result of the Grenelle environment forum (government report by Jean Puech)

The main proposals include:

  • Revising the forestry code.
  • Continuing the sawmill modernisation plan.
  • Creating a “bio-materials” or “bio-sourced” building label.
  • Increasing tenfold the amount of wood required by law to be included in buildings.
  • Introducing a tax rebate for parquet flooring and wall panelling.
  • Simplifying the town planning code and regulatory constraints.
  • Creating a carbon certificate to remunerate carbon storage in wood products.

Positive-energy building: a fine opportunity

With the strong development of low-energy and positive-energy construction, windows, doors and sunshades are becoming essential integral features of buildings.

  • EC marking of joinery compulsory as of 2010.
  • Certification system for the lifting of doors and windows being set up by French joinery manufactures’ association (UFME).
  • Eco-craftsman’s label from the French Confederation of Craftsmen and Small Businesses in the Building industry (CAPEB).
  • Certification of  energy efficiency professionals by the French building federation (FFB).
