The forestry-timber sector in good shape

The economic recovery has been a boon for the sector, notably in the areas of packaging and wooden pallets, which are consolidating their progression.

Industrial production progressed this summer thanks to lively domestic demand and the firming up of exports, with order books continuing to fill up,”explains the France Bois Forêt trade association.

Most of those involved in the forestry-timber sector, with the exception of the ETF (Forestry Work Contractors) thus experienced an uplift in Q3 2017. The pallet manufacture and reconditioning business in particular was marked by a healthy increase in turnover, around 4.5% higher than in 2016. As for light packaging manufacturers, after an already positive springtime (+3.5%), they recorded a further progression of 4%. Thus, according to the economic watchdog, the sector’s progression reached 1.5% over the shifting year.

By contrast, forestry work contractors don’t seem to have gained much benefit from this favourable economic context.

They see their turnover stabilizing a year’s interval after a first-half downturn. Over the shifting year, their business activity remains similar to what they did twelve months prior, states France Bois Forêt.

In the light of the observed progress in company order intakes, France Bois Forêt’s economic watchdog considers that

the activity of most of the sectors’ professionals should continue along these right lines until the year end.
